Designed by Fettle Design, the space features a central jewel-box bar surrounded by lounges and a terrace, providing a vibrant spot for both hotel guests and local patrons
Situated at 47 Welbeck Street, The Cocktail Bar is The Marylebone Hotel’s newest hideaway, offering a haven of warmth, elegance, and allure. The design is inspired by the four seasons, with each room responding to natural light. The fresh summer terrace allows for an indoor and outdoor feel year-round, while the winter lounge offers a cosy atmosphere enhanced by rich mohair and a beautiful fireplace. The central jewel-box cocktail bar forms the centerpiece, reminiscent of old-school glamour, complemented by a menu of seasonal cocktails and light meals.
Project Delivery:
The refurbishment of The Cocktail Bar involved transforming two of the three reception lounges into the bar area, which included installing new wall paneling, parquet panels, set into the existing marble floor, and new joinery units. The project was completed in phases to ensure the bar could open in time for Christmas, with the entire space handed back before the holiday season.
Design Highlights:
The design features a central jewel-box cocktail bar, surrounded by lounges and a terrace, each reflecting the changing seasons. The summer terrace offers an indoor and outdoor feel year-round, while the winter lounge provides a cosy atmosphere with rich mohair and a fireplace. The playful, luxurious design includes bespoke plaster, pigmented concrete, and stainless steel finishes, making the space both practical and inviting.
Challenges and Achievements:
The project faced the challenge of transforming the existing space into a vibrant cocktail bar while maintaining functionality for hotel guests. The phased handover process allowed for sections of the bar to open progressively, ensuring minimal disruption and maximising usability. The final design successfully combines elegance, warmth, and practicality, offering a unique and inviting space for patrons.
Working with du Boulay has been a pleasant experience and one which we would happily repeat. The standard of craftmanship and site management has been impressive and noticeable from early on in the process. This left us confident that du Boulay would be able to handle anything that arose and would do so to a high standard.
